Just received an urgent request from Donnybrook Organic Chicken. It's ASAP as they'd like to compile the information by the 15th of February. So if you know anybody in the South West who raises fowl:

We are still trying to get our organic chicken back in production. The only reason that we are not producing at the moment is that the only slaughter facility in the southwest is no longer able to slaughter for us.

We have investigated all other facilities available in WA, they are too far away from the farm for the welfare of the birds and quality control is a major issue.

As you may be aware we are trying to obtain funding assistance to establish an organic slaughter facility for chickens ( both meat and layers) and other fowl such as ducks and geese here on our farm.

Primarily this facility will be to slaughter any organic produce from both ourselves and any other organic growers in the southwest area who need birds slaughtered to organic standard. We will of course also be able to do small kills of both organic and non organic birds.

We have been given a rare opportunity to put our case for federal funding next week and would ask for your support in replying to this email particularly if you are a grower who would make use of this facility, or would want to consider growing birds if the facility were available.

Please pass this infornmation on to anyone you know who may need this facility in the future and especially those who have tried to have small kills done – organic or not-estimates of numbers would be extremely helpful.

We plan to recycle all waste and water from the facility.
